Christ Church in Boston
where it was "one if by land,
two if by sea"
|
One if by land, two if by sea;
And I on the opposite shore will be,
Ready to ride and spread the alarm
Through every Middlesex, village and farm,
For the country folk to be up and to arm.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem "Paul Revere's Ride"
After looking for the signal (one lantern if the regulars - the term used for invading British soldiers - were coming by land, or two if they were coming by sea) in the Christ Church steeple, Paul Revere and other Americans rode through the dark of the night on the eve of April 18,1775, to warn the country folk of the danger to come.

The Wisconsin Tea Party will monitor health care legislation in Washington (one lantern) and Madison (two lanterns). Medicare, Medicaid, the VA and other public health programs already account for half of all health care spending. This gives Uncle Sam the unique opportunity to promote wellness, disease management, transparency of price/quality and the development of information technology and data exchange - all factors in making health care more affordable. Further expansion of government into a Single Payer Canadian style monopoly however is anathema to American's unique belief in the individual's right to retain control and make choices.

Therefore, registered members will receive notice of legislative initiatives that either benefit or inhibit free markets. It is our hope Wisconsin Tea Party members will contact legislators in large numbers when these "alerts" arrive. Without the help of 'special interest' lobbyists, 'We the People' can still be heard!
